Sneak Peek! Day After Session – Styled Shoot

March 8, 2016

Day After Session – Sneak Peek!

Helloooo, everyone!
I’m super excited to (almost) share this session with you.
It was my first time planning a styled shoot and I am so thrilled with how it all came together. The concept was the ‘day after’ the wedding – the first day as newlyweds, incorporating some details from the festivities the day before.
Cozy, relaxed, playful.
I won’t say much more just yet, but I will share a few little sneak peeks – stay tuned for more!

Toronto Winter Engagement Session – Denis & Ada

January 17, 2016

Toronto winter engagement photos - Olive Photography He proposed during a trip to Quebec City.
He kept the ring in his sock, waiting for JUST the right time.
He had a spot in mind, but there were too many people around and he wanted the moment to be kept between just them two.

She thought he was going to wait until their trip to Albania a little later in the year.
She wondered why the heck he had to tie his shoes so many times on their walk.
She didn’t see it coming.

He wasn’t actually tying his shoes. He was checking that the ring was still there.
When the spot and moment were just right, he surprised her, and she said yes.

Then, they were able to celebrate with family on their trip back home to Albania.
—
I went to high school with Denis, and he got in touch when he and Ada were engaged.
I was of course super honoured and super excited!
—
We decided on a Winter engagement session. We were hoping for snow, but with busy schedules and an unpredictable Winter, there wasn’t any on the ground for their session.
But that’s ok – we still had fun walking around High Park for their engagement photos – a place they used to visit together.
We also enjoyed some coffee at The Grenadier Restaurant in the park to fill up with some warmth before our trek through the wilderness.
—
The light is so different each season in Toronto – for this session, the sky was overcast which lent itself to some slightly more ‘moody’ photographs. Kind of how the season often feels in general. But within the shadows and the darker shots, the warmth and coziness in their closeness and happiness makes these photos feel like a hug.

Here are some of my faves.

Harry Potter Engagement Session – Diana & Pat

October 31, 2015

I had to post these Harry Potter engagement photos today for Halloween!

She loves Harry Potter so much that they brought wands to their engagement session. And the Fall season was perfect for it!

“Wingardium Leviosa!!”

Harry Potter Engagement Session

He knew how much she digs the series and he even staged a Harry Potter-themed proposal — So thoughtful:

Diana and Pat had been dating for 8 years until last year when he finally decided to propose-in the most magical way possible. Knowing Diana’s love of all things Harry Potter, he decorated the house and set up a scavenger hunt with clues referencing each of the 7 books – this involved hiding the golden snitch, getting her to drink a potion and finding Moaning Murtle in their washroom. Diana was expecting a big birthday present, but was surprised when she found a ring inside one of the books instead! She said yes. All was well.

With only a few days until Halloween, this engagement session was just so much fun!
Thanks for the giggles and great time, you two! I cannot wait for your big day – with even more HP references!

Lakeview Hamilton Wedding

Kelsey and Nico fill my heart right up.
They are two of the sweetest, kindest people you will ever meet.
I feel very lucky that they invited me to witness and document the resounding love they share.
They planned an incredibly charming Hamilton Lakeview wedding. The blues of the water were echoed in the bridesmaids dresses, bride’s shoes, reception room colour and touches, and their twinkly blue eyes.
They are so easy-going, and their wedding had a very relaxed vibe – right down to climbing on the wave-splashed rocks at sunset!
The historic site where they held their ceremony and where they took wedding party photos was also so unique and beautiful – like a castle.

High school sweethearts Kelsey and Nico emanate such beauty and love in the most sincere and lovely way. It was beyond a joy to be a part of their special day.

— Here are some words from the newlyweds themselves! —

** What was the style/vibe of your wedding, and why did you choose to make it that way?

We wanted our wedding to reflect who we are as a couple – casual, relaxed, and fun (at least we think so)! We opted for more comfortable attire and simple DIY decorations to make it more personable and in order to stay within our budget. At its simplest, we wanted to celebrate our wedding with our friends and family, with lots of dancing and laughter – and we got exactly that!
** What was your favourite wedding moment:
Kelsey: That’s a tough one! I relished every moment of the day (yes, even the red wine spilling on my dress!). But if I had to choose one, I’d say this: We wanted our wedding day to be as organized as possible to limit the amount of stress that we’d feel on such an important day in our lives. We budgeted extra time for our “first look” before the ceremony which meant we were able to relax and enjoy each other’s company before the busyness of the day. I also loved taking photos by the water on the rocks after dinner – it was such a beautiful evening and a special moment together as husband and wife!
Nico: While it was an unforgettable day overall, some truly stand-out moments were the ones where Kelsey and I got to be alone together. There’s something special about having a minute or two to yourselves on a day where everyone’s attention is on you! Standing out on the rocks with just my wife as the sun set would have to be my favourite moment.
** Any advice for engaged couples planning their wedding?
Don’t sweat the small stuff – as cliché as it sounds, things may go wrong but you have to stay positive and never forget what the planning is all about – celebrating your love and commitment together in the presence of the people who mean the most to you. What else really matters, right?
Be as organized as you can to avoid some of the minor stressors that may arise (logistics of the day) but don’t let that get in the way of having the best day ever! Budget your time well so that you have room to breathe and enjoy each other’s company!

Ancaster Mill Wedding – Meghan & Matt

July 25, 2015

Meghan & Matt's Ancaster Mill Wedding, Hamilton Ontario - by Olive Photography Meghan & Matt's Ancaster Mill Wedding, Hamilton Ontario - by Olive Photography

Ancaster Mill wedding photography is an absolute breeze – there are so many unique and gorgeous spots to take photos!

Oh, this wedding. This wedding was just full of heart. I don’t know how else to say it – Any time I think about this day my heart just fills right up and I feel all warm and fuzzy.

Meghan and Matt had a beautiful Ancaster Mill wedding near Hamilton, Ontario. It was raining in and out throughout the early part of the day, but the skies opened up 15 minutes before the ceremony. There were huge sighs of relief! They were so happy to have their dream outdoor ceremony in such a magnificent garden oasis. Lush hedges stood as walls surrounding the space, making us feel like we were in The Secret Garden. The sun was just starting to shine again through the humid air, producing a beautiful golden glow. It was magic.

It was also so wonderful to witness how much their families supported their union. So much love. The whole day was just full of amazingly good vibes.
Thank you so much, you two, for inviting me to document this special time for you! Wishing you endless joy throughout your new life together as husband & wife <3

Berkeley Church Wedding – Nikki & Andrew

July 24, 2015

Nikki & Andrew's Berkeley Church Wedding in downtown Toronto - Olive Photography

Berkeley Church wedding photos are pretty unique – This venue is an old church converted into a super interesting place to hold a wedding!
There’s an upper-level balcony for the ceremony that overlooks the reception area. Different than any place I’d ever seen before with mezzanine seating and twinkle lights strung along the open view downstairs. And stained glass windows let in warm, glowing sunshine. A very cool spot.

You may remember these two from their super sweet engagement session at University of Guelph, where they first met.

These two are super fun, free-spirited people who are a blast to hang around with and photograph.
Not only are they completely *beeyoootiful* people, but their charisma and positive attitude makes my job of capturing life-filled moments such a breeze. These two have such a zest for life and are always laughing. Loved that!

The girls got ready at Trump Hotel, and before heading to the ceremony I snuck Nikki away for some quick bride shots in the buslting downtown. It was a challenge at first since it was so busy, but we quickly embraced the lively vibe and got some really special photographs with such movement – I love how they turned out! Sometimes a situation isn’t ideal, but if you roll with the punches something pretty unique and interesting can come about. These may just be my fave bridal portraits I’ve ever taken so far. I just love candid wedding photography.

Anyhow – before I ramble on too much, here are some of my faves from Nikki & Andrew’s relaxed and fun Berkeley Church wedding.

Congratulations again, cutie pies!

With so much love,
Anastasia

Ontario Cottage Engagement Session

July 9, 2015

Toronto Wedding Photographer - Olive Photography_0784

Ooh, I was so excited to shoot this Ontario cottage engagement session!

There’s nothing quite like a visit to the cottage.

As someone who lives in the bustling, often smoggy city of Toronto (which I absolutely love, don’t get me wrong!), the clear, fresh air that comes with vast expanses of nature is invigorating.
Pair that with the relaxed, care-free vibe that you can’t help but adopt in such a magnificently beautiful place, and you have a recipe for a great time.

Emily and Matt are having their wedding at Emily’s parents’ home/’cottage’ near Creemore, Ontario, and we decided to take some engagement photos as we explored the property in preparation for their big day.

Her parents built the home from the ground-up and have been so thoughtful and creative with how they use the land surrounding it. They’ve created lovely trails around the land with hand-made benches and bridges sprinkled in the most perfect locations along the way. (I remember thinking, ‘it’d be so nice to have a place to sit and enjoy this view’ a couple of times, and each time one was right there!)

For this shoot we incorporated bubbly and a pool hangout since those are musts for this pair at this rural retreat.

For the wedding, Emily’s mom is going to utilize her award-winning gardening prowess to make the home even more beautiful than it already is – I can’t wait. Until then, here’s there engagement session!

P.S. How much does Matt look like John Hamm? We had a riot whenever he made certain faces – it was uncanny!

Toronto Island Engagement Session

June 25, 2015

Xanthi and I went to high school together, so this Toronto Island engagement session was extra special. When she messaged me to let me know she and Mani got engaged I was so thrilled for them! When she asked if I’d photograph their engagement photos for their public engagement reveal I was beyond excited.

We chose to shoot their photos on Centre Island because of the wonderful variety of locations it offers – beach, nature, farm, and Centreville! Though Centreville was closed, it was so much fun walking around and reminiscing about the place we’d visited as kids. I’ll be honest, it made me want to go back when it opens again to go on the log ride, train and buggy driving rides again!

We explored and chatted and goofed around whenever we were inspired by a nifty location. We were super excited to see horses and peacocks, and we of course had to go say hello.

The ‘Yes’ cupcakes that we photographed on the beach were actually saved from when Mani proposed! (He didn’t have any ‘No’ ones made – ha.)

Read more about this cupcake and their love story in a blurb from these lovebirds themselves, at the bottom of the post!

And if you like this location for an engagement session, check out this one, and this one! (I looove it there.)

And now some words from the lovebirds themselves!

“Friends. Lovers. Partners. Family. When Mani first asked me out eight years ago at York University, I told him I preferred being friends. Seems like we all say that when we’re not interested right? Wrong! In fact, this is the time we really got to know each other and build on our friendship.

How did we get out of the “Friend’s Zone” you ask? Well, after spending late nights studying at York, lifting weights together at the gym, and working double shifts serving tables, Mani made his second move. This time I knew there was something special.

Our biggest challenge as a couple was spending 10 months apart while I was living in Barcelona. Despite the time difference, our long distance was a success mostly thanks to Mani visiting me- twice! Our mini adventures around Barcelona, Mallorca and Rome was just the beginning of our craze to travel and explore the world.

Coming home to Toronto and moving in together brought us closer as partners sharing a life. Four years later and we’re engaged!

We knew for a while we’d be together “forever and ever”, but it was a fairytale that came true on a proposal that surprised me on a sunny Friday evening after work. “Καλό μήνα” he said (Greek phrase and fun game we play meaning “have a good month”). Without sharing too many of Mani’s romantic secrets, the cutest touch of the evening was the cupcakes saying “Will You Marry Me” and another one printed “Yes”!

Over the years we’ve strengthened our bond and have become a family whose love is unconditional and forever passionate. Our secret? Respect. Trust. Friendship.”

Pillow Fight & Old Mill Engagement Photos

June 23, 2015

Toronto pillow fight engagement session
Pillow Fight & Old Mill Engagement Photos

I love the idea of doing a home engagement session. Cozy and comfortable, in your own element.
This was a super fun one. Who doesn’t love a pillow fight!

I met with hotties (I mean, seriously) Chloe and Andrew at their beautiful home where they greeted me in true comfortable style – yeah, PJs!

We hung out like they often do on a weekend morning, chilling out in the living room and reading the paper in bed – then we turned the fun factor up to 11!

After the fluffy fun they changed and we headed over Old Mill since it’s close to where they live and I like incorporating areas that somehow reflect the couple in engagement sessions.

We went for a walk and enjoyed the beautiful day (after 2 reschedules due to May’s intense rain!).

Here are some of my faves from our time together.

Lindsay and Adam are two of the sweetest, most kind people I have ever met.
I truly mean that.

They have such big hearts and are the type of people who genuinely open themselves up to you and let you in – and it feels like the warmest hug.

They had a beautiful intimate ‘little big day’ with their closest friends and family. After a City Hall ceremony we went to a restaurant around the corner from their home for some of the most mouth-wateringly delicious vegetarian food I have ever had (Lindsay and Adam love animals so much – they even have 3 kitties, and they’re vegetarians), and after that we continued the festivities at their home.

The love that surrounds Lindsay and Adam was so palpable and wonderful. Friends, family, neighbours, even co-workers came through with gifts and tokens of appreciation for them leading up to and during their big day.
Their co-workers even threw them two separate surprise showers!
And at their wedding their friends and family shared with me their stories and words of absolute adoration for these amazing human beings.
This wedding was a long time coming after 14 years together (I know, right?), and it is so clear that these two are great together. Such adoration, such appreciation, such a soul connection.
I feel completely honoured to have been invited into Adam and Lindsay’s world – I basked in the beauty of their day and it was a joy to photograph it for them.
I feel doubly lucky that I actually live across the street from them, so I get so see them lots!
Congratulations again, you guys.
Big hugs!
Anastasia
