U of T Engagement Session – Jess & Adam

November 10, 2015

Adam and Jessica – could two people be more adorable?

We tossed around a few ideas of where to do their engagement session but ultimately landed on where they went to university together. Why not bring it back to where it all began!

The University of Toronto is so incredibly picturesque – everywhere you turn is another gorgeous sight!

We met at the quad and casually walked around, taking in the sights. The evening was beautiful, which made us so glad we decided to reschedule from an earlier date when it was rainy. (Though rain can be totally cool for photos, the sun during our session was perfect for creating dreamy light and airy photos!)

These two are so amazingly sweet. They were a little shy about being photographed at first, but you wouldn’t be able to tell from the photos. I assured them that, yes, at first having a camera pointed at you feels weird, but really we’re just hanging out and I’m not here to judge, just capture this happy time. Super soon we got into the groove, having fun, and they were absolutely incredible – I love that part of my job involves helping people feel more comfortable and confident. Big bonus: It leads to such love-filled photos! Here are a few of my faves. U of T engagement session

Jess & Adam, I had such a wonderful time with you and can’t wait for your wedding in The Blue Mountains in September!

Xoxo!

Canoe Restaurant Wedding – Catherine & Alex

November 2, 2015

Canoe Restaurant Wedding

They got married atop the city.
Canoe Restaurant sits on the 54th floor of Toronto’s TD Bank Tower, above the city’s tallest skyscrapers, with a sunset view that is out of this world.

We circled the neighbourhood and found romance amidst the bustling streets and office buildings, pausing to document photography their portraits in some of the city’s unique and interesting backdrops. Some of this included graffiti, church parks and even some metal cow sculptures – we embraced where we were and really relished how different their wedding photos would look.

Their wedding ceremony took place in a room adjacent to the main dining room with a unique layout – they stood in the middle with their loved ones seated in rows on both ends of the space. This way everyone could be closer – and the idea of being surrounded by loved ones during such a momentous time is lovely.

Their ring bearer stole my heart – a doe-eyed sweetheart in a mini-man suit and flower crown. Yes, he wore a flower crown, and it was adorable!

This wedding also included some special personal touches including custom illustrated invitations with them and their pug Frank (who also joined us that day!), ‘party animal’ figurine place cards, a cake topper that Catherine’s grandparents used for their wedding, and candles Alex lit just before dinner to honour his parents who are with us in spirit.

Here are some highlights from their special day.

Words from the newlyweds themselves and more info about their wedding are at the bottom of the post.

And now, here are some words from the newlyweds themselves:

* What was the style/vibe of your wedding, and why did you choose to make it that way?
We wanted our wedding to feel urban, and reflect how much we love living in Toronto. The end feeling that we wanted to create was a fun dinner party for our guests.

 * What did you love most about your venue?
Everything! The space is beautiful on its own, so we didn’t have to do much to decorate.  The view is spectacular. We loved having the ceremony, cocktail hour and reception all in one place. And we loved that our venue is a restaurant, so the focus was on the delicious food.

* What was your favourite wedding moment (bride & groom)
We had a lot of favourite moments during the day, but a few stand out:
Catherine: I loved seeing Alex for the first time. I also love how Alex surprised me towards the end of the night by including a touching and hilarious anecdote in our thank you speech to wrap up a joke that we’ve shared since our first date.
Alex: I’ll never forget watching Catherine walk down the aisle at our ceremony.

* Any advice for engaged couples planning their wedding?
Enjoy every moment because the whole process is fun, exciting, and goes by quickly. Make sure that you have a least one person you can rely on to troubleshoot and keep things moving on the day of your wedding, and make a really good detailed itinerary.

* Any final thoughts about the big day/experience of getting married that you’d like to share?
We relied a lot on help from our amazing friends and family. It was a true labour of love to turn our ideas into a beautiful day.

Harry Potter Engagement Session – Diana & Pat

October 31, 2015

I had to post these Harry Potter engagement photos today for Halloween!

She loves Harry Potter so much that they brought wands to their engagement session. And the Fall season was perfect for it!

“Wingardium Leviosa!!”

Harry Potter Engagement Session

He knew how much she digs the series and he even staged a Harry Potter-themed proposal — So thoughtful:

Diana and Pat had been dating for 8 years until last year when he finally decided to propose-in the most magical way possible. Knowing Diana’s love of all things Harry Potter, he decorated the house and set up a scavenger hunt with clues referencing each of the 7 books – this involved hiding the golden snitch, getting her to drink a potion and finding Moaning Murtle in their washroom. Diana was expecting a big birthday present, but was surprised when she found a ring inside one of the books instead! She said yes. All was well.

With only a few days until Halloween, this engagement session was just so much fun!
Thanks for the giggles and great time, you two! I cannot wait for your big day – with even more HP references!

Rustic/Glam Distillery District Wedding

April 16, 2014

StephBrianLRWM-84

Stephanie and Brian got married!
And it was a beautiful day to match their beautiful smiles.

StephBrianLRWM-63
I had a lot of fun photographing their engagement session a while back and was so excited to photograph their wedding!

The sun shone through the windows of Stephanie’s parents’ house as she and her bridesmaids got ready, and the warmth that filled the room was echoed by their apparent ease and contentment. Steph was remarkably composed – no nerves were visible on this bride’s face. Perhaps it was because after a nine-year relationship, this couple was already connected in the strongest way, and getting married, though an exciting and wonderful occasion, was but a way of formalizing what they already felt in their hearts.

Their family and wedding party were all so welcoming – I felt like one of the gang, joking, laughing and dancing as I snapped away – everyone was in such a great mood!

After the lovely ceremony at Leaside United Church (where Brian beamed endlessly) we headed in the stretch limo (with Veuve Clicquot champagne, no less) to the Distillery District for the wedding party photos. The weather was even nice enough that Greg’s Ice Cream was open! Of course we had to grab a cone!

Afterwards we headed to The Vue  for dinner, dancing and merriment – the entire dance floor was packed with happy people celebrating this love that’s been almost a decade in the making.

Congratulations, lovebirds! It’s been an honour to document this happy time in your life, and I wish you all good things to come!

And now some words from the newlyweds! (They sent this from their honeymoon!)

What was your favourite wedding moment?
Bride: Walking down the aisle and seeing Brian with the biggest smile on his face ear to ear, just knowing he was as happy in that moment as I was, is a moment I’ll never forget…and the moment we were pronounced husband and wife was pretty amazing too! 🙂
Groom: Having our first dance together as husband and wife and singing to Steph as we danced. At that moment it felt like just her and I were in the room alone sharing a special moment together.

Any advice for engaged couples planning their wedding?

Enjoy the day! You’ve spent so much time planning for your wedding so on the day just remember to enjoy it and don’t sweat the small stuff because no one will notice but you. It’s a beautiful day and you don’t want to miss it because it really does fly by!
